More Than Training: Inclusion in Practice
More Than Training: Inclusion in Practice
More Than Training: Inclusion in Practice, the JFM Fund-supported project running in Whyalla and regional South Australia through 2027, and invites people and organisations to get involved.
Suitable for: People with disability and neurodivergent people, parents, kinship and foster carers, family supporters, Schools, sporting clubs, workplaces, support workers, services and community organisations.
The project is open to people across Whyalla and regional South Australia. You do not need an NDIS plan or a formal diagnosis to take part. We offer priority places to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, regional and remote families, people without an NDIS plan or diagnosis, and anyone who has found it hard to access support because of cost, transport, communication, cultural safety, isolation or past experiences with services.
Every part of the project follows one simple cycle
Listen
People with disability and Aboriginal contributors help set priorities, shape language and decide what success looks like.
Learn
Free, accessible workshops and 12-week Community Linkage programs.
Try
Every participant, family and partner organisation chooses one practical 30-day inclusion action.
Review
We follow up at around six and twelve weeks to see what happened, what helped and what got in the way.
Share
What works is turned into free resources and shared with the wider community.
Three streams of support

Inclusive Workforce and Community Practice (H3) For educators, support workers, sporting clubs, workplaces, services and community organisations. Identify and remove barriers in how you communicate, welcome people, set up your spaces and make decisions.
More Than Training: Inclusion in Practice
Learning Matters When It Changes What Happens Next
A free, 12-month project in Whyalla and regional South Australia that turns learning about inclusion into real change in everyday life – for people with disability, families, carers and the organisations around them.

People with disability and Aboriginal community contributors work with us in paid roles to shape the project.
January–December 2027 – Delivery:
Three 12-week Community Linkage programs and 18 workshops across the three streams, with 30-day actions and follow-up.
Throughout 2027 – Sharing what works:
Free learner resources, a regional partner practice guide and a community learning forum.
What is More Than Training
Listen, Learn, Try, Review, Share
Too often, people with disability are expected to learn to advocate for themselves while the places around them stay the same. Families learn a strategy but still face transport, cost or communication barriers. Workers complete training but never get to try something new.
More Than Training is different. It is a disability-led and Aboriginal-led project that connects learning with practical action, follow-up and real community participation. We don’t ask whether people attended a workshop. We ask what changed afterwards.
The project shares responsibility for inclusion across individuals, families, workers, organisations and community settings, so people with disability are not left to adapt, explain or advocate alone.
Led by lived experience
More Than Training is designed and guided by people with disability, neurodivergent people and Aboriginal community members. Up to six community contributors will hold paid, recognised roles as co-designers, access advisers, resource testers, co-facilitators and evaluation contributors. Taking part in stories, photos or evaluation is always your choice. You decide what you share.

More To Life. More To Support.
“More to Life, More to Support” represents the evolution of Wara Yindi and our belief that support should be about more than appointments, paperwork and meeting basic needs. Every person deserves opportunities to connect, build confidence, learn new skills, explore their interests and enjoy a life that feels meaningful to them. Wara Yindi remains the organisation behind our services, while More to Life, More to Support reflects the way our programs and opportunities are growing.
Our More to Life programs provide fresh, practical and enjoyable alternatives to traditional disability supports. Each month, we release a new line-up of activities focused on creativity, cooking, movement, employment skills, community participation, friendships, independent living and new experiences.
Programs are designed to be flexible and can be adapted to individual disability, sensory, communication, mobility, cultural and accessibility needs. Our respite options may be delivered at a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 support ratio. Travel and pick-up arrangements may also be available for people living outside Whyalla.
Services may be accessed using eligible NDIS funding or through private payment, depending on the program and the person’s circumstances.
THINGS WORTH LEAVING THE HOUSE FOR .
More Than A Service
At Wara Yindi, we believe people deserve more than simply having their immediate needs met.
They deserve opportunities, relationships, confidence, belonging and experiences that make life feel full.
We understand that good support is not one-size-fits-all. We take the time to listen, build trust and understand what matters to each person and family.

Programs & Workshops
More to Life delivers a changing calendar of inclusive programs, workshops and community experiences designed to make support more engaging, practical and meaningful. Rather than offering the same activities all year, new programs are released regularly so participants can explore different interests, develop new skills and choose experiences that genuinely appeal to them. Programs and workshops may include: • Cooking, meal planning and independent living skills • Creative arts, crafts and beginner-friendly hobbies • Inclusive sport, movement and outdoor activities • Fishing, beach days, bush experiences and local adventures • Gardening, flowers and floristry • Employment preparation and work-readiness activities • Social groups, movies, games and community outings • Aboriginal art, culture and On Country learning • Day trips, camps, weekend escapes and respite experiences Every program has a purpose beyond the activity itself. Participants may work towards goals relating to confidence, communication, friendships, independence, community participation and everyday life skills. Programs can be adapted to support individual sensory, communication, mobility, cultural and accessibility needs. Support may be provided individually or in small groups at 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 ratios. Eligible participants may access programs through their NDIS Core or Capacity Building funding, or attend through private payment.

Training
More to Life provides practical, engaging training for participants, parents, carers, support workers, disability providers, schools and community organisations. Our training is grounded in lived experience, professional knowledge and the realities of providing support in regional communities. Sessions focus on strategies people can understand, remember and confidently use in everyday situations. Training topics may include: • Understanding behaviour as communication • Neurodiversity-affirming support • Supporting emotional regulation • Trauma-aware and culturally responsive practice • Building positive relationships and engagement • Supporting children, adolescents and families • Communication and practical de-escalation strategies • Supporting independence without taking over • Professional boundaries and ethical support work • Case notes, documentation and evidence • Understanding NDIS participant goals and plans • Risk awareness, incident reporting and safeguarding • Practical support worker skills • Working alongside families and informal supports • Creating inclusive and accessible programs Training can be delivered in person or online and may be adapted for individual organisations, workplaces or community groups. Participants can also access selected training to build their own knowledge, confidence, self-advocacy and understanding of the supports available to them. Our goal is to make training useful—not just something people attend, but something that improves the way support is understood and delivered.
